- Leadbitter founded by Frederick Rendell and Colin Church. First scheme was for Chipping Norton Rural District Council the construction of 11 Local Authority houses at Lyneham, Oxfordshire.

- Bob Rendell, Leadbitter’s Group Chief Executive acquires Leadbitter from his father and Colin Church and operates the business from his spare bedroom.
- Turnover £300,000; 5 employees; key contract in 1985 was the construction of 9 bungalows for the Cherwell Housing Trust in Bodicote, Banbury, Oxon.

- Company operations move from Bob’s spare bedroom to an office above his garage.
- Turnover reaches £1.2 million; key contract in 1987 was the construction of 44 units for Oxford City Council.

- Company acquires Listed Mill in Eynsham, Oxon and converts it into new Headquarters.
- Turnover reaches £5 million.

- The new Headquarters officially opened by Rt Hon Douglas Hurd CH, CBE.
Turnover reaches £10 million.

- Leadbitter awarded the contract for the construction of new student accommodation at St Catharine’s College, Oxford. Officially opened by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
- Steve Burgess joins Leadbitter.

- Leadbitter awarded the contract for the construction of a new open quadrangle, encompassing library, student accommodation and fellows rooms for Magdalen College, Oxford. Officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales.

- First issue of Company Newsletter, ‘Leadbitter Leader’ to keep clients and staff informed of the companies achievements and project successes.
- A Leadbitter brochure and business card rub shoulders with a Royal volume of poetry in the time capsule buried by Prince Charles beneath the floor of Magdalen College School.
- Paul Abson joins Leadbitter.

- Consistent growth and record profits establish Leadbitter as the largest privately owned construction company in the region.
- Placed second in UK Building Awards – Regional Contractor of the Year.
- The second Leadbitter office was opened in Bristol.

- Leadbitter awarded the contract for new student accommodation for Oriel College, Oxford. Officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen.

- Leadbitter turnover reaches £53 million and an EBT of £2.7 million.
- 30th Anniversary Summer ball held at Magdalen College School.

- Company moves to its own 20,000 sq ft purpose built Headquarters building on Abingdon Science Park, Oxon. Officially opened by Frederick Rendell.
