Our recent project at Banbury School for Oxfordshire County Council, designed by Atkins, has been well received by the client for being delivered on time and within budget.
The new sixth form centre extension included internal alterations and restoration works to the existing buildings, the conversion of four existing classrooms and alterations to the reprographic room.
The works have allowed the students to benefit from a large, comfortably furnished social area, a separate higher education/computer suite and a learning area/common room. Vodafone donated £25,000 towards the provision of these highly specified communications and computer facilities sponsored the higher education/computer suite and learning area.
Other equipment which the students can benefit from includes fast colour printers and scanners, art and design software, improved library and research provision with programmes linking lecturers with A-level students to ease university applications.
The official opening ceremony took place on 23rd November 2005 and was attended by all parties involved on this project to mark the overall success and smooth deliverance of this centre. Keith Mitchell, Leader of Oxfordshire County Council addressed the ceremony and commented on the changes: “The county has been aware for some years that Banbury School’s sixth form centre was badly in need of a facelift. This new centre is very good for the school and money well spent on a sixth form where standards are rising year on year”.
