A special flag was unfurled on top of an 11 storey steel structure marking a significant milestone in the development of a new £14 million student accommodation building in the heart of Bournemouth.
Contractors Leadbitter hoisted their company flag, alongside a banner from Signpost Homes and Bournemouth University, by crane to the top of the recently completed steel framework during a special ceremony earlier this week.
This Signpost Homes development, located on a brownfield site at Holdenhurst Road, is being undertaken in partnership with Bournemouth University and will provide new purpose built accommodation for students attending the University. Construction work, being undertaken by Leadbitter on a design and build basis, is due to be completed for the new academic year in September 2009.
Dave Cook, Leadbitter’s Regional Director, said: “This is a significant development in the heart of Bournemouth and will provide modern purpose built facilities for hundreds of students.
“Work started on site earlier this year and we are continuing to make good progress.
Wayne Morris, Group Chief Executive of Spectrum Housing Group (which includes Signpost Homes) added: “As one of the largest local providers of student accommodation we are really looking forward to the completion of this project in partnership with Bournemouth University. We are delighted to be working with Leadbitter on this prestigious scheme which is being built on a brownfield, sustainable site, to provide excellent accommodation for students.”
