The new facilities will allow the University College Falmouth, as part of the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) initiative, to relocate their successful photography courses to the campus and add new specialist Honours Degrees in Press Photography and Marine & Natural History Photography.

The extension to their media centre will also allow the College to launch four new Masters Degrees within Journalism, targeting specialist subject areas of International, Sports, Investigative and Science journalism. The new building provides general office space, lecture theatres and seminar rooms, new laboratories, dark rooms and studio facilities.

The building has been dug into the side of a hill to lessen the visual impact of the structure and external features have been carefully chosen to help it blend into the landscape. The crowning feature of this new extension is a wild flower roof with deliberately chosen varieties of local plants.
