Client: Gloucester Hospitals NHS Trust

The construction of a three-storey theatre extension complete with ancillary accommodation and plant room including a bridge link to connect the new and existing development. Refurbishment works to the existing building were also incorporated, as well as specialist internal fit-out for a theatre development with extensive mechanical and electrical services.

The refurbishment works included significant asbestos removal. This, together with the testing, was carried out in a live hospital situation. Areas were isolated to enable the safe testing and removal of the contaminated materials, including detailed method statements, risk assessments and liaison with the Health and Safety Executive.

Each phase of the refurbishment works was identified, decanted and completed separately to minimise the effect on the live hospital environment.
