Client: Vale of White Horse District Council
The White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre brings a whole new dimension to leisure facilities within Abingdon and a complete change of use for the former redundant refuse tipping site.
With a 25 metre competition pool, separate teaching pool and toddler area, sports hall, gymnasium, squash courts(with moveable dividing walls), dance studios, changing rooms with sauna, sun bed and stream room and a huge health and fitness facility, the complex provides some of the best facilities in the county.
In addition to all of the above the Centre offers extensive tennis facilities. The internal tennis hall contains six indoor acrylic courts whilst outside six outdoor clay courts and four outdoor artificial grass courts are provided. The Centre also includes a tennis ‘KIDSZONE’ for the smallest of players. As the 50th Indoor Tennis Initiative (ITI) scheme in the country the project benefited from the generosity of the British Tennis Foundation through their support of the first KIDSZONE at an ITI centre.
Since opening, the Centre has achieved twice the planned customer usage and is a real success story. |
