Client: St John’s Hospital
The construction of this three-storey Almshouse provides fifty four self contained apartments for use by the elderly and needy within Bath.
Communal facilities include a common room, chapel, hairdressers, laundry room, recycling facilities, extra security measures and internet access. Extensive landscaping was undertaken to provide the courtyard garden.
The Almshouses won a ‘Patrons Award’, which was also presented by HRH The Prince of Wales, entitled ‘Certificate of Excellence for an Almshouse Project’ under the category of ‘New Almshouse Development’. HRH Prince Charles, who is Patron of the Almshouse Association, a national body of which St John's Hospital is a member, also opened the facilities.
The scheme achieved a Bronze Considerate Constructor Award, highlighting both the maintained personnel and public care, along with regular contact with local schools and a high level of community liaison. |
