Client: Vale Housing Association
This project has provided an enclosed housing development for both elderly and general needs tenants. The development consists of twenty flats for the elderly plus eight keyworker houses, two general needs flats, together with communal facilities and warden office.
Due to the site being within a conservation area the original five derelict Victorian workmen's cottages were demolished and then rebuilt in-keeping with the original designs. All works were carried out in consultation with planning and conservation officers in the area.
With a stream running directly through the site, the team had to remain sensitive and certain measures were taken to allow the stream to continue running through the site in an aesthetic and environmentally friendly manner. Flooding problems were overcome by using undercrofts and the access resolved by the construction of a new bridge over an existing culvert. |
