Three Ways School unifies three Bath and North East Somerset special schools into one purpose made facility. The project was procured via a two stage tender under NEC Option C Target Price Cost with X12 Partnering Supplement and was fully open book up to the start of construction.
Leadbitter were appointed just one week after the project architect and so were able to contribute to the design and development of the school from an early stage. Value engineering exercises were undertaken by the team, including refurbishing of an existing building on the site rather than demolishing it, resulted in over £2 million cost savings to bring the project within budget.
Presentations were held at each of the three existing schools and parent’s ideas for the new school were taken on board. We worked hand in hand with the project artist to incorporate both his own artwork and that of existing pupils into the internal décor of the new building.
Close collaboration and liaison with numerous other parties, including English Heritage, was essential to the schemes success as the new school was constructed in close proximity to an existing school, hospital, residential properties and a listed monument. |
