Leadbitter Completes Falcon Court ExtraCare Development
13-02-2012The Leadbitter Group has completed the construction of the Falcon Court ExtraCare housing development in Kingswood, Bristol—the latest multi-million pound scheme of its kind in South Gloucestershire.
Constructed for Housing 21 on behalf of South Gloucestershire Council, Falcon Court is part of a Council-led scheme to provide more than 700 extra care housing units across the district, alongside two new care homes which will replace the Council's older facilities.
The scheme offers 40 one and two bedroom flats for rent, together with a range of communal facilities, 24-hour care and support on-site and a Wellbeing Centre to provide services for adults with learning disabilities and people living with dementia. The scheme aims to allow people to live as independently as possible in an affordable home of their own.
Leadbitter consulted with local staff and carers prior to the design of Falcon Court, and the result is a stunning development that uses different forms and materials to distinguish the residential accommodation and the resource centres.
Russell Houghton, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Western Housing division, said, “Falcon Court is an exemplar of extra care developments in the UK. We are delighted that Housing 21 and the Council gave us the opportunity to utilise our expertise in building affordable housing and specialist supportive facilities to create this outstanding development which will have a positive impact the quality of life of older people in the area for years to come.”
Julia Godwin, development programme manager for Housing 21, said: “We’re delighted with Falcon Court, and it is lovely to see the residents settling down into their new homes. Leadbitter have done an excellent job in creating high quality apartments to meet the need of older people in Kingswood.”
Cllr Matthew Riddle, executive member for community care and housing, added: “Extra care housing allows people to live as independently as possible, in an affordable home of their own. Residents have their own front door, can live with their partner or friends, and have enough room to allow family and friends to stay too – while knowing support is available 24/7 if they need it. The council’s contribution to the scheme – by providing the land and capital – is yet more evidence of our commitment to providing the very best 21st century facilities for some of our most vulnerable residents.”
