Denne Starts Work on New Care Home in Orpington
18-01-2012
Work has begun on a new care home in Orpington, Kent, to provide the highest level of care for older people, including those living with dementia.
The new development, which is being built by Denne, part of the Leadbitter Group, on behalf of Care UK, will incorporate the latest innovations in residential care to provide 84 luxury bedrooms together with state-of-the-art facilities.
This development will provide a high quality environment with a homely atmosphere, enabling people with dementia to stay independent, active and engaged for longer.
The home will feature a shop, hairdressing salon, café and library, all set around a tranquil, indoor village space. Outside, the landscaping is also carefully designed to enhance the residents’ quality of life, offering a communal, sensory and herbal garden with a large water feature. Denne will also create patio gardens for all ground floor apartments, where residents can tend to flower beds and plant pots, in their own private oasis.
Further design aspects will include the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof and a combined heat and power unit, which will help to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating for the project.
Graham Brown, Managing Director of Denne, said: “We are pleased to be able to work with Care UK on this new care home in Orpington. Denne has a wealth of experience in the care sector, and we are sure that our work will go a long way towards helping Care UK deliver much needed, specialist care services.”
Care UK’s Head of Property Development, Richard Smith said: “Care UK is passionately committed to improving the levels of care received by people with dementia and we have been working on both the design of our new care homes and our service delivery to ensure that we are continually innovating to meet the needs of our residents.. We have been caring for people in our homes for almost 30 years – that experience, and our passion for quality, means that 97 per cent of our homes have been independently rated as good or excellent”
The project is due for completion in early 2013. Care UK has plans to build more than 30 new homes over the next five years. Work has also started on homes in East Grinstead and Halstead and another one in East Sussex was completed and opened last year.
